Miscarriage

Do you ever feel like you’re about to lose it all?

Like a sucked up raisin or

A battered boat by the sea,

Left to fade out, effortlessly.

Do you ever feel the looming voice of the emptiness,

Calling you out on the void inside?

The black hole heart that swallows you

Whole

Until you wither

Like autumn into winter

Leaf by leaf, only

Waiting to be trampled yet again

And what are you left with anyway?

When the sap dries-

When the only thing you knew you were good at,

Doesn’t survive the tide-

When you can’t remember how to write.

When you’re shipwrecked without a lifejacket

And you  s l o w l y   let go

Swimming was something you always knew

But you just can’t anymore!
